The Usk Netball Club Junior Section caters for girls
of all standards in school years 7 to 9. The junior netball coach is Martha
Price, assisted by Carolyn Phillips and Joy Hughes. The coaching team
works hard to ensure the enjoyment and development of our juniors in a safe
and friendly environment.
Every year the girls go to watch the Welsh Team play
in one of their Superleague games. The home games are usually in Cardiff, or
sometimes in Cwmbran, and sometimes televised on Sky Sports.
Some of the girls attended the Roadshow organized by
the Welsh Netball Team in October. They thoroughly enjoyed the coaching by
the Welsh players, doing new drills and meeting and talking to them about how
the became a Welsh team player and nutrition and fitness. Posters were signed
for the girls to take home and free tickets were given for the girls, by the
Welsh Coach, to go and watch a Superleague game this season and support our
National Team.
The girls benefit from playing in the South East
Wales Junior League where games are played on a Sunday in Cwmbran Stadium,
usually every month. Annual friendly tournaments are also arranged in
Caldicot, Chepstow, Monmouth and at home at the Athletic Club in Usk. The
girls also enjoy playing in a friendly tournament every other month in
Brecon.
On 10th October 2010 they played their
first games of the season in Cwmbran. They won 7-0 against Newport
and drew 6-6 with Ebbw Vale. What a start to the season.
The 21st of November seen there first
visit of this season to Brecon. A brilliant result - winning 10-4, then 8-4
against Ystrad Angels and then winning 10-2 against Brecon, but then losing
the last game 5-8 to Brecon. Well done girls.
The next sets of games are in Cwmbran on Sunday the
28th of November.
Training Times - Wednesday evening - 6pm until
7.30pm at Usk Athletic Club
Everyone welcome to come along and have a go.
