Usk return to winning ways with comfortable victory over Bridgend

After last Saturday’s disappointment at St Fagans, Usk got their league campaign back on track with a comprehensive 114-run win over Bridgend.

Bridgend won the toss and inserted the hosts on a murky afternoon and a damp pitch at the Athletic Club Ground. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Usk built their innings solidly by way of a string of useful partnerships, the highest being 63 for the 5th wicket. Mike Jones was the mainstay for Usk compliling 83, which included 14 fours. Everyone contributed, with Neil Perrett (32) and Huw Waters (27n.o.) ensuring that Usk reached a competitive 235-6 from their 50 overs. This score rpoved to be ar too competitive for Bridgend as the Usk bowlers set about their task. The Huw Waters and Jason Cook combination, which has been so effective this season, proved successful once more. They reduced the visitors to 12-3 in the the 9th over. Bridgend never recovered from this position and were always way off the pace. Wickets fell constantly and despite some middle order resistance from Cutter and Morris, Bridgend were eventually dismissed for 121 in the 43rd over. Waters and Cook finished with the excellent figures of 6.4-2-11-2 and 10-2-17-2 respectively. Captain Perrett also weighed in with 3-0-15-2.

Usk have had a fine start to the season and need to take this form into next weekend when they visit defending league champions, Sully Centurions.
