The 1st XI travelled to Sudbrook where rain prevented a finish.
Mindful of the overnight rain and murky overhead conditions, Neil Perrett won the toss and inserted Sudbrook on a pitch that was always going ‘to do a bit.’
The hosts got off to a solid start, working their way up to 100-2 at the halfway stage. During the middle overs, Usk then began to frustrate their opponents; Mike Jones bowling a miserly spell of 10-2-18-1. With 10 of their allocated overs remaining, Sudbrook found themselves 154-4. This is when Usk started to make mistakes and let their opponents off the hook. Sudbrook blasted 86 from these final overs to finish at 240-8. For Usk Tom Robinson picked up three wickets, whilst Owen Watkins and Gavin Jones each helped themselves to a brace. Sudbrook were indebted to a century from Archer. His 111 contributed nearly half his team’s runs; the next highest score being 33.
After Sudbrook’s innings closed, the players went into tea never to return as heavy rain set in. With the first batting side managing to complete their innings, this ensured that Usk at least picked up valuable bowling points.
