Mixed fortunes and weather for Usk

On Friday, at the third attempt Usk and Cardiff met in the Welsh Cup, at the Diamond Club Ground, and finally they managed a result, Cardiff winning narrowly by 2 runs. In a match reduced to 15 overs per side Cardiff batted first and scored 96-6, whilst Usk finished on 94 all out from their allocation. It was a happier time for the firsts on Saturday, when they beat Tondu by 51 runs. However, the seconds succumbed to the same opponents by 27 runs.

Birrell Blitz lifts gloom over Usk

With poor weather ruining all of Usk’s other weekend fixtures, only Usk’s first team match at home to Pentyrch on Saturday went ahead.

Rain ruins Usk’s weekend

Only Usk first team got to start a game this weekend as their game away to Penarth was abandoned after the hosts had reached 234-6 from 37.2 overs. During this period Mike Read managed figures of 8-0-47-3 before heavy rain curtailed play for good. Back in Usk, the second team match at home to Bridgend was abandoned before a ball was bowled. Then on Sunday, the triangular Twenty20 competition was abandoned too.

Usk lose out in farcical Cup Match

On Saturday Usk first team beat Sully away at Burnham Avenue, whilst the seconds lost at the Athletic Club Ground to the same opponents. On Sunday Usk were knocked out of the Welsh Cup away to Cardiff, in Whitchurch, in a match that lasted only 21.4 overs.
