Usk finish second in Dave Connor Shield
The Dave Connor Shield is awarded to the Cricket Club in the Premier Division of the Thomas Carroll South Wales Cricket League, who has shown the greatest adherence to sportsmanship and readiness to accept umpires’ decisions – at one time a given, but now something of an exception!
The adjudicators for the Shield are the umpires themselves who officiated in Premier League matches during the 2007 season. At a recent meeting of the Premier League umpires, the votes were cast: Usk Cricket Club were pipped to the Shield by Croesyceiliog, with Newport Foresters coming in third. It is pleasing to see that Usk maintain a good reputation as fair side on the circuit as well as a good relationship with the umpiring fraternity.
