End of season news
Although the playing side of the season finished last month, the final
few weeks have been busy for Usk – including cross-dressing car booters
On the evening of Saturday 27 September, it was Usk CC’s Presentation Evening / Hogroast. This was an enjoyable evening for everyone who attended, as players, families and supporters celebrated a successful season. Interspersed amongst the speeches (including an epic delivered by Mark Tamplin, speaking on behalf of 1st Team Skipper, Tom Robinson) the following awards were handed out by outgoing chair, Peter Perrett:
1st team players player - Huw Waters
1st team performance - Olly James v Sully
2nd team players plater - Jake Roderick
2nd team performance - Jake Roderick v Sudbrook
Des Edwards Award U25 player - Olly James
Anne Hemmingway award U19 player - Jack Steadman
The following day to mark the end of the car boot season in Usk, Russ ‘Roxanne’ Carter and Kai ‘Michaela’ Michael helped out with the parking duties in drag! The ‘ladies’ picked up double the usual amount of donations during the morning – Russ also picked up many compliments on his legs – and managed to put the smile on many of the car booters, and hopefully not scare them away from returning next year.

The following weekend, on the evening of Sunday, 4 October, it was the Annual Usk CC Quiz, hosted by Rich ‘Albert’ Hall and Mike Nash. It was a chance for some of the finest minds in Usk to gather in the same room and pit their wits against one another. This was a close run affair with a couple of points separating the top 3 teams. In the end, it was Ken Dodd’s Dad’s Dead who prevailed, narrowly ahead of Dan’s Delight and 6 Not Out.
Finally, on the evening of 7 October, it was the Usk CC AGM. There are a few changes in personnel from the previous season: Mike Kear is the new Chair, whilst Sanjay Thapan takes over from Mike as the new 2nd XI Captain. At the meeting thanks were given to the outgoing chair, Peter Perrett, who also received the Club person of the year award. 2010 will be an exciting season for Usk Cricket Club, as the club enters the new South Wales Premier Cricket League.
