Usk 2nd XI v Bridgend 2nd XI
At home, the 2nd XI also lost by 1 wicket.
At Usk, the home side lost the toss and were inserted on a wet wicket. Mike and Tony Kear opened the innings but were both dismissed with only 10 on the board after 11 overs. Things went from bad to worse with only Richard Barrett (19) getting into double figures of the top seven batsmen. After 23 overs the score stood at 39 for 7 with all but the wildest optimist fearing the game would be over by teatime. With the wicket starting to dry out, Jason Cook and David Egerton started to mount a fightback. Both batted admirably for the next 20 overs and took the score to 118, sharing a partnership of 79, before Cook fell stumped for 46. Egerton batted for a further 5 overs, before he was bowled for 48 with the score on 144 for 9. Usk were all out for 150 in the final over.
In reply, Bridgend got off to a solid start with their openers putting on 40 after 12 overs. The next 10 overs were a struggle for the visitors with only 11 runs being added. Jake Roderick (10-4-14-1) and Tony Kear (10-5-14-2) bowling superbly. The 3rd wicket fell with the score on 51. Usk must have felt they were in with a shout when top scorer Cadogan (31) was dismissed in the 41st over with the total standing at 110 for 5. Julian Smith picked up 3 wickets for 43 runs off his 10 overs including Bridgend's 8th wicket with the score 143 in the 48th over. The game was still finely balanced with the visitors needing 6 runs off the last over. Bridgend reached the target with one ball to spare and winning by one wicket.
