Usk put up brave fight away to Sully
Looking to build on their consistent start to the season, Usk visited defending league champions, Sully, and nearly pulled off an improbable victory. However, Sully had just enough in reserve and scraped home by three wickets.
On a sunny but breezy day down on the South Welsh coast Neil Perrett won the toss and decided to bat. The top order struggled, and Usk lost wickets regularly, with nobody other than Ian Clayton amongst the first nine batsmen getting into double figures. Fortunately for Usk, Clayton was in imperious form, scoring a priceless 87, which included 13 fours and 1 six. Usk eventually got up to 146, a total that had looked very unlikely when Usk had been 52-5 in the 17th over. For Sully, R Silvester, Eskins and Williams each took three wickets. Despite Usk picking up two early wickets,
Sully looked in little trouble as they found themselves 70-2 in the 18th over. Sully’s middle order then started to get the jitters, and at 105-5 in the 26th over, Usk started to believe once more. However, Eskins (40*) kept his nerve and saw Sully home, but not before Usk had snapped two more wickets. The pick of the bowlers for Usk were Tom Robinson with 10-1-49-3 and Shaun Moore 10-3-33-2.
