Bridgend 1st XI v Usk 1st XI

Usk returned from their game at Bridgend feeling like winners! While bottom club Bridgend could well rue losing 8 points in an amazing game which saw Usk pick up 5 wickets and restrict Bridgend to 9 runs off the last 3 overs - the game finishing on a tie.
Usk, held up in traffic on the M4, were forced to concede the toss and were asked to bat first on a very wet wicket. Iain Clayton and Ahmed Bapusha were both out in the first 2 overs without scoring and Ollie James soon followed to leave Usk on 26 for 3 after 12 overs. Mike Jones and skipper Neil Perrett put together a stand of 112. At 138 for 3 after 39 overs, Usk lost Perrett to a careless run out and 3 more wickets quickly followed. Mike Jones continued with a brilliant knock and with Mark Tamplin took the final total to a respectable 198 for 7, with Jones finishing on 119 n.o.

In reply, Bridgend's openers had few problems with Usk's pace attack and Mike O'Shea and Humphries (45) put on 100 before spinner Mike Jones trapped Humphries leg before. O'Shea went for 68 to Owen Watkins, but at 189 for 2 after 47 overs the fun started! 2 runs came off the 48th over and 4 off the 49th to leave Bridgend needing 4 runs off the final over with 7 wickets in hand. A dot ball followed by a Clayton stumping and a run out off the 3rd ball, left 3 runs required off 3 balls. A single off the 4th and another wicket off the 5th, saw 2 required off the last ball. A run out going for the second run saw the scores tied.
